SOUL offers two types of participation. The main type of participation is based on a workshop-style, it is hands-on, and it is targeted to mature (2nd year or later) PhD students and early career researchers (Post-Docs). Participants who wish to observe the keynote lectures and/or the workshops, but who do not wish to fully commit in the research activities and in the publication of a journal paper are very welcome to attend. The latter option is very suitable for school teachers, as well as for prospective and 1st year PhD students. Please note that we assume that a 2nd year PhD student has already completed the literature review and is actively working in system development or data collection from the field.
Successful applicants should submit a 4-page position paper in the ACM CHI Extended Abstract Format. The position paper should at least include the following sub-sections: 1) abstract, 2) motivation, 3) related work, 4) methodology, 5) early or expected results. A “student talk” session will provide the opportunity to students’ who want to get feedback on their research work by established academics in an informal Doctoral Consortium session. Selected student talks will have 20 min. slot that is roughly 15 min. to present and 5 min. for questions. Students’ of selected high quality papers will be invited to submit an extended version for a special issue of high quality Journals. Submit your paper through easychair.
